As you no doubt know, there are a number of skills that go into expert clipper cutting–none more important than developing the right touch. This skill has to do with how much pressure is applied as the clipper’s teeth touch the scalp while traveling up the sides and back.
* If the pressure is too light, many hairs are left uncut. You will need to keep going over the same area several times to get all the hair cut to the desired length.
* Press too hard and your patron’s head will move away from the clipper. Causing pain is a sure way to lose more customers than you gain.
This is one of those skills that’s learned by trial and error. As a beginner, the important thing is to be aware of the pressure you apply to the scalp. Your awareness will develop the skill in a short time, and it helps insure the customers keep coming back for more.
PATIENCE
Have patience with all things, but first of all with yourself.
